ABOUT ME
I like to make dumb things smart, and smart things smarter.
I grew up in Iowa where I gained valuable experience working for my parents’ small business during weekends, [school] in-service days, and early outs. I attended the University of Northern Iowa, where I initially pursued Marketing & Communications before transitioning to Criminology with a minor in Political Science. During this time, I was an active member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and had the privilege of serving as the university’s mascot, TC. Seeking new experiences, I participated in the National Student Exchange program, spending a semester at Missouri State University. Additionally, I completed an internship at the United States Marshal Service headquarters in Alexandria, VA.
After graduating, I relocated to Des Moines, IA, and began my career at John Deere Financial as a Litigation Specialist — where I discovered a passion for leveraging technology to simplify processes and streamline work. That passion led me to self-teach various programs and coding languages, and ultimately to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Information Systems. I advanced within John Deere Financial to Senior Web Content Analyst, overseeing the company’s online presence. After 12 years, I moved on to start a new chapter with Farm Bureau — a transition that’s given me deeper exposure to back-end web development, building on a career that had previously centered on the front end.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my fiancé and dog, participating in CrossFit classes, and tinkering with new technology to expand my knowledge. I have a deep passion for smart home technology, which I’ve used to outfit not only my own home but also family members’ homes — creating spaces that are lower-maintenance yet more secure. During COVID, I started dipping my toes into 3D printing, and that obsession has only grown since. Pairing my love of smart home technology with 3D printing has led to plenty of fun, practical solutions for everyday problems, big and small. My most recent hobby has been digitizing old family media — scanning photos, VHS tapes, camcorder recordings, and 8mm reels. Once that project was complete, I moved on to digitizing our family’s DVD collection, which led me to build and host a personal Plex server so my family can enjoy their own private “Netflix.”
